The International Movement for a Just World (JUST) strongly feels that the execution of Abdul Qadir Molla, an opposition leader in Bangladesh, would be a gross injustice to humanity. Mr. Molla has been convicted of mass killing and other offenses during the country’s civil/ liberation war in 1971, but most observers are convinced that the process of trial has been faulty and full of inconsistencies. The most worrying aspect of this case is that the government of Bangladesh seems to be determined to carry out the execution in spite of overwhelming international appeal against this conviction. We are afraid that such an uncompromising approach to such an important and sensitive issue will only promote violence and intimidation. We appeal to the President and the government of Bangladesh to demonstrate compassion and wisdom at this important moment in history.
