Stop Somalia’s Tragedy

Right now, more than 2000 people are dying every day in Somalia, in a famine that threatens to starve eleven million people to death. Drought has brought this region to its knees, but the food crisis is really fueled by a complete breakdown in governance and international diplomacy, and we can put an end to it. We cannot let the politics of the war on terror claim any more innocent lives. The famine-hit area is governed by Al-Shabaab, an Islamist regime that is linked to terrorist groups.

It’s time for the international community and Al-Shabaab to come to an agreement to immediately get food to the suffering Somali people. The UN Security Council is meeting in a few days — let’s demand that they take immediate action to support key Arab nations in an effort to open talks with Al-Shabaab on cooperating to end the famine and seize this chance for a long-term political solution.

Stand With The People of Egypt

The demonstrations in Egypt could end three decades of repressive rule and bring, at long last, freedom and democracy to Egypt.

The regime is attempting to starve the protest movement of two crucial sources of power: information and solidarity. But despite the internet blackout, Egyptian radios and satellite TVs can still receive broadcasts from across the border.

JUST stand with those on the streets and build a deafening outcry against rampant corruption and political repression, and for democratic reform.

To stand with the people of Egypt in their demand for freedom and basic rights,  please join and share this statement of solidarity with your friends.

Save our children from cluster bombs

We won! Our massive petition delivered personally by a cluster bomb victim to the French chair of the conference, helped push 50 states to oppose the cynical US attempt to give legal cover to countries that wanted to use deadly cluster bombs. Mexico and many other delegates used our petition and the number of signatures to strengthen their arguments in the talks. Our banner, placed right outside the conference room, together with our “guerilla flyer action”, sent an unmissable reminder to all negotiators about the opposition back home, helped block the dangerous new law and saved the lives of thousands of innocent civilians.

Ivory Coast: Stop Conflict Chocolate

Ivory Coast is on the brink of civil war, and chocolate companies could play a critical role in saving lives and bringing peace.

In November, former President Laurent Gbagbo lost democratic elections but is clinging to power despite united international pressure, ruling through his brutal army that has killed hundreds. Cocoa is the country’s largest export, and if chocolate companies stop doing business with Gbagbo now, his cash supply to the army could dry up — and he could be forced to step down.

JUST took part in sending a message to large,multi-national chocolate companies such as ADM, Barry-Callebaut, Blommer, Cadbury, Caobisco, Cargill, Cémoi, Cipexi, European Cocoa Association, Federation for Cocoa Commerce, Ferrero, Hershey’s, Kraft, M&M/Mars, National Confectioners Association, Nestlé, Olam, Outspan Ivoire, Pronibex, Révillon, Unilever, Valrhona, World Cocoa Foundation to suspend trade with Gbagbo now and commit to working only with the legitimate government.

Global Bee Emergency – Act Now!

Quietly, globally, billions of bees are dying, threatening our crops and food. But a global ban of one group of pesticides could save bees from extinction.

Four European countries have begun banning these poisons, and some bee populations are recovering. But chemical companies are lobbying hard to keep all killer pesticides on the market. A global outcry now for a ban in the US and EU, where debate is raging, could provoke a total ban and a ripple effect around the world.

JUST supported the petition prepared by avaaz.org in building a giant global buzz calling for these dangerous chemicals to be outlawed in the US and EU until and unless they are proved to be safe.

Sign the petition to save bees and our crops.
